Payment via Mobile App - The Validation Process
After opening an account in the app, you must perform a validation for every journey. Each bus is equipped with several QR codes for validation. The minimum number of signs is equal to the number of doors + 1. For example, an intercity bus will have three validation signs (two doors + 1). Generally, look for these signs near the doors.
Since bus structures vary, the exact placement of the QR signs may differ between vehicles. However, all locations have been approved by an accessibility consultant. The signs are easy to find—they are A4-sized and include a brief explanation of how to scan them.
How to validate:
- Open the app (you must grant camera permissions).
- The app will open the camera to scan the QR code on the sign.
- The app will guide you through the process, primarily to determine your travel distance for fare calculation. Navigation may vary slightly between different apps (e.g., HopOn or Rav-Kav Online).
- After setting your destination, confirm the validation.
- Once complete, the app will display a barcode for inspection and proof that you have validated according to your account profile.
Once registered, you only need to validate each trip. Billing occurs at the end of the month or day (depending on your credit card type) according to the new fare structure. You can track your account status and update details directly within the app.
Fare Structure: Payment Apps
Fares are now calculated based on the aerial distance (radius) of your journey, placing the passenger at the center rather than old geographic "zones."
Single Trip Fares
| Level | Fare (NIS) | Distance Range (km) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5.5 | Up to 15 km |
| 2 | 12 | Up to 40 km |
| 3 | 16 | Up to 75 km |
| 4 | 27 | Up to 225 km |
| 5 | 68.5 | Over 225 km |
- Discounts: Profiles for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities remain unchanged and are applied to the single trip fare.
- Israel Railways: Single trip fares for the train remain unchanged.
- Example: A senior citizen traveling from Ra'anana to Tel Aviv (Level 2 distance) will pay 5 NIS (50% of the single fare) if that is their only trip.
